A young P-plate driver and a female passenger died when their sports car slammed into a power pole in Sydney's west, splitting the vehicle into several pieces, police said today.
Another passenger, a 32-year-old man, suffered head injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Police said the Nissan Skyline clipped the front of a four-wheel drive at the intersection of Milperra Road and Marigold Street, Milperra, just after 11pm (AEDT) yesterday before hitting a power pole.
They said the 21-year-old driver, from Chester Hill, and his 20-year-old passenger, from Villawood, died at the scene.
The injured passenger was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
The impact of the crash scattered debris over an extensive area.
